PHILANTHROPY

LEADING WITH HEART

The Alpha Phi Foundation advances women’s lives through the power of philanthropy, funding empowering Fraternity leadership programming, life-changing scholarships and assistance grants, cutting-edge women’s heart health research, and critical heritage preservation. At the chapter level, we support the Foundation through events hosted for the UA and Tuscaloosa communities. In 2021, our chapter donated $12,790 to the Alpha Phi Foundation. If you would like to support the Alpha Phi Foundation, donate below!

HEART THROB WEEK

Each fall, we host our annual Mr. Heart Throb Competition It is a week-long series of fun philanthropy events. This year, we held a corn-hole tournament, blood drive, Hoops for Heart basketball game, social media competition, and cookout! We invite fraternities to select a representative to compete for the title of Alpha Phi’s Mr. Heart Throb. To win Mr. Heart Throb, a participant needs the most support from his fraternity, must show the most support for the Alpha Phi Foundation, and raises the most money throughout the week! The winner and his fraternity win perks throughout the year, a trophy, are featured on the chapter’s instagram, and then carry the title of Alpha Phi’s Mr. Heart Throb for next year! All proceeds benefit Alpha Phi’s philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation.

NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY

The first Friday in February is known as National Wear Red Day! Our members, friends and families sport red shirts, ties and more to bring attention to the importance of cardiovascular disease education. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women affecting one in three women. Join us next year on Friday, February 3, 2023 as we rock red to help save lives!

THE HEART WALK

Hosted by the local American Heart Association chapter, the annual Tuscaloosa 5K Heart Walk has one of our largest turnouts! Each year, our chapter builds a team and raises money for the American Heart Association whose mission aligns with our mission, heart health awareness and research. For the last five years, our chapter has been awarded the honor of largest group (most participants) AND top fundraising group! In 2022, our chapter raised $10,227 for the walk, and raised over $10,000 in 2021. Each March, we pair our spring Parents’ Weekend with this event, so we can share our cause with family and friends. We hope to see you join us next year!

MAC N PHI’S

One of our biggest fundraisers is our annual Mac N Phis! What could make you happier than eating a big bowl of mac n cheese with your sisters and friends?! We invite the Greek and UA community to join us for this event. Organizations and individuals buy tickets for our mac n cheese bar. Attendees get to build their own bowl with toppings including bacon, fried chicken, extra cheese, sour cream and the list goes on. We love opening our home to the student community while raising money at the same time!

LIFE SOUTH BLOOD DRIVE

Each year, we partner with Life South to host at least one blood drive for UA students, faculty and staff. This spring, we partnered with Sigma Nu Fraternity and together collected 150 pints saving 450 lives. We are proud to say this is the LARGEST blood drive in the state of Alabama annually!

COFF-PHI’S

Everyone needs a welcome back after returning from winter break! Each spring when we return to campus, we host Coff-Phis where we sell coffee and doughnuts to students on their way to class one morning. We use this as an opportunity to meet fellow students while raising money. All proceeds go right back to the Alpha Phi Foundation. COVID prevented this event recently, so we are excited to bring it back next spring or even this fall!

SWEET TEA WITH THE PHI’S

Last spring, we introduced a new event for us, Sweet Tea with the Phi’s. We partnered with Sig Ep Fraternity to sell glasses of ice cold sweet tea to students traveling to and from class. Nothing makes a spring day sweeter than some southern style iced tea!

Who says philanthropy can’t be fun! We can’t wait to see what our Philanthropy team comes up with for this coming year.
